The Bramble, also called the Blackberry, yeilds a delicious fruit which old folklore tells us not to eat after September 29th, Michealmas. If you do then the Devil will spit on them! However there is an insect, the flesh-fly, which does put a saliva-like fluid onto the fruit which it later sucks up to along with the juice of the fruit
